Love it or hate it, what happens in Vegas is pretty much unique to Vegas

As we made our way to Las Vegas, signal along the road was patchy. Nevertheless, I had the Wikipedia page detailing the history of the city up and ready to offer up interesting nuggets as we approached.

Highlights included Vegas being dubbed “Atomic City” in the ‘50s, since mushroom clouds could be seen from Vegas during nuclear testing in the desert, and the dark history of mobsters like Bugsy Siegel, who were all up in that gambling biz.

Postcards proclaimed Vegas as the “Up and Atom City” for a time, a play on the phrase “up and at ‘em”. Vegas is, for lack of a better way to explain it, a trip—unreal, bizarre, everything you imagined.
