Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam | Now you’re in Nevada

Valley of Fire

Don’t miss the Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam on your travels

After the utter marvel that was Grand Canyon, we were back to the road. En route to Vegas we stopped by a few spots, because more landscape. I didn’t take specific note of where this next break was exactly, but it was definitely somewhere in the Valley of Fire State Park.

Fire! Check out the ol’ satellite view to see that red rock scorched right into the desert and it’ll all make sense. We pulled in for a quick break and took a wander to see this stunning array of Aztec sandstone. Word of warning, if you decide to spontaneously park up, wasps may spontaneously attack.

Out of nowhere this mad swarm descended on us and it’s the closest I’ve ever felt to being in a real horror movie. I flew into the car, slammed the door, frantically checked for invaders and saw Ben and Natalie in a panic outside. They almost didn’t make it. Terrifying.

Anyway, next up we had to make a detour via the Hoover Dam before Vegas. Since we arrived about 23 minutes before closing time, we didn’t get to experience the lifts (elevators) but it’s something of a marvel regardless. There are facts and facts that you’ll likely already know, but it seems yet another controversial thing with the naming, environmental impact, and the construction itself.
