The Dark Arches & Leeds Canal | Must-visit places in Yorkshire

Don’t sleep on what Leeds has to offer

Leeds has a train station. Under that train station runs a canal. When it rains that looks canal swell, like it would swallow you whole. It really would and it’s terrifying and captivating in that cognitive dissonance kind of way. I don’t want to jump in, but do I? I could. I could just do it.

They call the space under the station "The Dark Arches", and I've had plenty of hell dreams about that gate—even in daylight. That’s the place with the most rush when it’s rained. You’d scrape all under the low bridge before washing out the other side if you did fall in. It must be because it goes narrow to wide. Displacement and such. It's one of my favourite places in the world.
