Guest vocals for Egokiller
In another life, I worked as a barmaid in a Leeds bar called Dr Wu's. It was a place filled with incredible creatives, talented musicians, and Stroh rum—the death shot of all death shots.
Occasionally I'd get the chance to jam with some of the regulars, including the fabulous Egokiller. This collective of lads, who wrote and gigged under the leadership of Greg, was an awesome ragtag group of musical minds. Their tracks often erred towards the political, and this Christmas special was no different.
Greg often asked me to come by and record backing vocals, so I would trek around the corner from my place, grab a cuppa, and settle into the music room. The studio was your classic bedroom setup: amps everywhere, an a–z of instruments strewn around, the odd ashtray or two. The two of us would settle in and time would disappear.
I'd wander over around 10pm, wander back around 2am, and creep into bed after a night of blasting a lung out. Greg was meticulous, detail oriented, and forever adding layers to his songs. This is the result of that last session we had, all those years ago.
A classic, a fave, a song that everyone—including me—has butchered and failed to do justice. Try to enjoy. It sounded better live, to be fair. Summertime.
Back when I was someone rather different, but sort of the same, I secretly put together this cover of "Amazing Horse" by Weebl for an ex—it was a birthday surprise. I'd not really delved into Logic before, so it was quite the learning experience, but even now I can listen back with fondness.
